Day by Day Itinerary

Full information about day by day for  7-Day Kilimanjaro Expedition via Lemosho Route Itinerary

Day 1
High-Altitude Drop-Off and Trekking to Shira 1 Camp

On the first day of your trip, your guide will meet you in the morning and give you a briefing, after which you will journey (approximately 3–4 hours) to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, Londorossi Gate (2,200 m). The party continues upwards towards their drop-off site after getting climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service. For the first time, you can get breathtaking vistas of the Shira Plateau from this location.

The first day has a little altitude climb and is not too physically demanding. You’ll be able to start the acclimatization process properly. Our expert mountain crew will have set up the tents and prepared dinner for you by the time you arrive at the camp.

Day 2
From Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) is the starting point for a modest climb to Shira 2 Camp, the second high altitude camp (3,900 m). This walk is not challenging, and you will be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Africa as well as the distinctive vegetation of Kilimanjaro and its surroundings. Weather permitting, Shira 2 Camp is the greatest site on the tour to see Mount Meru (Africa’s fifth highest peak).

After a two-hour siesta, everyone will complete an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, which includes a 200-meter elevation rise.

Day 3
From Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (en-route Lava Tower)

After breakfast, depart Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and begin your journey to Lava Tower, the route’s most important landmark (4,630 m). This stretch of the trail features numerous ascents and descents, culminating in a camp at a height of over 4,600 meters. It may be unpleasant and uncomfortable, but you must stay at least 1–2 hours here to adequately acclimatize to the altitude, thus this is where lunch will be served.

Then you’ll make your way to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). The iconic Barranco Wall can be seen here, which is amazing in both size and steepness! You’ll be climbing it the next day, but don’t worry: it has a fairly basic hiking track.

Day 4
From Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Early morning wake-up, breakfast, and the start of the Barranco Wall summit (we recommend you leave the camp as early as possible to avoid crowds of the other groups). It takes about an hour to hike up the gorge wall, which is not tough. You can take a break and take photos in front of the Kibo volcano after the hike.

Then you’ll embark on a more strenuous climb to Karanga Camp, which includes multiple ascents and descents, but don’t worry: our guides are masters at determining the best pace for the group. When you arrive at the camp, you will be served a hot meal. After a couple of hours, you’ll have to execute a 200-meter acclimatization hike in the direction of Barafu Camp, followed by a descent back to the camp.

Day 5
From Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, you’ll head to Barafu Summit Camp (4,640 m), the starting location for a night summit attempt on Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Before you arrive at Barafu Camp, our team will build up a camp for you, complete with tents and sleeping bags, so you can relax and refuel before tackling the summit. After regaining strength, you’ll go on an acclimatization walk to Kosovo Summit Camp (4,800 m) and then back to Barafu Camp for a nice dinner. It is preferable to spend the rest of the day before the night summit relaxing and sleeping.

Day 6: Descent to Millenium Camp from Uhuru Peak

At night, depart from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) towards the summit of Kilimanjaro: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The climb is quite basic in terms of technique; however, the high altitude is the most difficult aspect. For the duration of the climb, each pair of climbers will be accompanied by a personal guide who will keep track of their physical and mental well-being. If you like, you can descend to the nearest glacier after your successful summit of Uhuru Peak. After a 2-hour respite, return to Barafu Camp and resume your descent to Millennium Camp (3,820 m).

Day 7: Mweka Gate to Millenium Camp

In a lush rainforest, the Millenium Camp is located. When you wake up, you’ll notice how much more comfortable your body is at a lower height, as well as the satisfaction of reaching the top. After a hearty breakfast, proceed to Mweka Gate, the park’s exit (1,650 m).

Following your descent, the entire group will meet to congratulate you, and you will be given the opportunity to record your thoughts on the climb in the guestbook. Finally, we will present you with your commemorative certificates at our office and transport you back to the hotel of your choice in Tanzania.

We will transport you to the airport the next morning.
